Event Description

My name is Evis Progonati and I was recently chosen as a delegate to One Young World summit -- a one-of-a-kind event that will bring together 1500 young individuals from across the world. The summit will serve as a platform for youth to discuss and give their response to challenging issues that impact humanity today. More specifically the issues that will be discussed are: (1) political leadership for a positive future; (2) global business and its role in shaping society through the economy; (3) interfaith dialogue; (4) the environment; (5) the media; and (6) global health.

In order to attend, each delegate is required to raise €3000. I am reaching out to the White House Project community because through my experience with the WHP I have learned so much about building partnerships, true leadership and the importance of having the support of like-minded individuals.

I believe this summit will help to consolidate the movement of the leaders of tomorrow and I hope to represent the voice of women.

Thank you very much for your support.

Sincerely,

Evis Progonati

More information about my experience
I have a long-standing commitment to promoting development through empowering the marginalized by building coalitions based on mutual respect and understanding.I have worked to build international partnerships that promote gender justice and sensitivity on issues such as political participation, climate change, land rights, corruption, youth employment and microfinance. I strongly believe in the power of youth as change-makers and in this vein I hope to be chosen as a delegate to One Young World.

The fundamental belief of my work is based on the fact that partnerships between youth can make a sustainable positive difference in the lives of our citizens. Furthermore, these partnerships can help to strengthen institutions and civic responsibility among all age groups.

Through my work with A-KS, (Student Coalition Against Human Trafficking and Violence Against Women) an NGO I founded in Albania, and our team’s efforts to create a youth movement to raise awareness on human trafficking and its impact on young women, I gained first-hand experience on how to build coalitions between groups that represent different interests. I also learned that for long-term sustainable solutions, we need the support of strong institutions that provide the necessary framework for action. I firmly believe that young individuals are key actors for building these institutions.

However, in our world today young people are the most marginalized group constantly finding their social, economic and political rights violated. Youth are universally the most unemployed, underrepresented, unheard voice in all societies. And yet, the potential of young people, at the very least as tomorrow’s leaders and decision makers is immeasurable!

In this vein, I envisage One Young World to be the forum and the structure that will allow young talented individuals to represent their age, gender, sexual orientation, culture, religion, political and philosophical ideas.

I believe that the One Young World experience would provide me with a unique opportunity to be part of a generation of international activists prepared to facilitate sustainable development at the global level.
