Profile Information

In 100 words or less tell us how you are a leader
I am a psychotherapist and Certified Interspiritual Mentor, and mother of two beautiful children. I have spent the majority of my life and career in various leadership positions in the field of Social Work through various speciality areas, such as HIV/AIDS, Child Abuse, Addictions and Addiction Recovery, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and Mind/Body/Integrative Medicine, as well as in Community Service through Board participation and the creation of new, innovative community projects.

However, recently, my concern has turned to the enormous challenges facing our world population which I see so fragmented by divisiveness, anger and aggressiveness. We are a world in need of great healing beginning with the infusion of deep compassion. James O'Dea from the Institute of Noetic Sciences states that "we cannot have enlightened societies without visionary, compassionate and emotionally intelligent leaders". I have recently founded a not for profit, Anam Cara Outreach whose vision is the development of such leaders among students, educators, business, political and community leaders, and families. One of our first initiatives has been to create a Leadership Institute for adolescent girls as a way of positively influencing their culture - particularly in the area of relational aggression - and developing student leaders by teaching social and emotional literacy, an appreciation for diversity, non-violent communication, understanding the power of our words, problem solving and coping, assertiveness and refusal skills, empathy and compassion, and social responsibility among other topics. The project has been successful in reducing incidents of relational aggression among young middle school girls substantially. It is my conviction that we must help to shape tomorrow's leaders.

Hello Barbara, Myself and numerous women on the network are interested in starting a conference similar to the White House Project symposium that connected us all together in the first place. Karen Johnson, a leader approached me with the idea and we are in the planning stages. It is a work in progress and we would love for you to become involved. Please feel free to email me at kimhermajesty@yahoo.com. Take care and have a great week!

Hello Barbara,

I just read your Profile and I am very interested in learning more about your not for profit organization Anam Cara Outreach. I share your vision to reach out to young women particularly those in the middle school years to work with them to develop leadership skills. I live in the Philadelphia area and would like to start an organization like yours in my area. I too believe it is our responsibility to help shape tomorrow's leaders. I would love to hear from you about how you began the process and would look for your guidance to assist me in this endeavor.

Women Rule!
Warmest welcome from a sister and friend,
Who will stand with you in spirit to the very end.
What a powerful witness you have to share,
So know that this sister will lift you up with prayers.
Be encouraged and hopeful in every way,
Feel free to whisper, sing or shout joyfully throughout the day:
Women rule!
If we band together in one clear voice,
We can crescendo together in a joyful noise.
The melody of women, who collaborate and work together,
Will send a resounding message that will last forever.
Women rule!

PS: Please feel free to grace my page with your words of wisdom, a poem, a thought or even a kind word of encouragement for all women to see. Blessings to you now and always!
