I own The Turning Point: "Our mission is to serve as a Loving agent for social change by improving the health—the body, mind, and spirit—of our community, without charging an arm and a leg for services." I served on the Board of Ethics at St. Francis Hospital, as Secretary/Treasurer of WHCA’s Districts IV and V, on my church’s Education Board, as Secretary for and chair of three PTA committees. I was named one of Milwaukee’s “100 Cool Moms”, a winner in the StartRight! Business Plan Competition, interviewed by SmartCEO magazine, and for WASH-FM’s “Women of Vision” program.

Focusing Our Energy

This reading is so timely for me. I feel pulled in a dozen different directions: getting married next week (!), connecting with this network, growing my practice, supporting my family, fundraising for our PTA, planning to sell our condo this summer, learning about our community... Today's Daily Om helps me remember to focus my energy one moment at a time. (You can subscribe to these daily e-mails at www.dailyom.com.)

Peace Quotes and their Application to the Women's Movement

I love how the below quotes about peace can apply to promoting women’s power. Can you bring these principles of non-violence into your work supporting gender equality? Can you find it in your heart to love your oppressors; to be "pro-feminism" without being "anti-masculinity"; to find your own peace walk amidst a fervent and harried “march for justice”? I challenge you to try…

Breaking Barriers

Classism is generally defined as bias based on social or economic status. I like Lisa Rohleder's definition: "the mechanism by which some people's lives are defined as less real or less valuable than others', based on their level of wealth, education, and culture." Important issues in social policy and political agendas are frequently defined by what upper-middle class people value. One consequence of that is the assumption that if you are not upper-middle class, you must be indigent and dysfunc… Continue

Breaking-Out

Growing-up in a small Midwestern town, at a small Midwestern school (there were only 138 in our graduating class), as a quiet-awkward-bespeckled girl, I watched the same students take leadership roles from Elementary through High School. The same circle of students, who all spoke with a remarkably similar voice, took turns on Student Council, as Class Officers, and leading various school clubs. I remember watching from afar, wondering how one got to be a part of that inner circle, wondering how… Continue

Hi Jessica! I just wanted to see if you had checked out the "Maximize the Moment" page, and to invite you to the conference call scheduled for tomorrow at 1 PM (EST). The instructions for the call are in a blog on the page. Even if you have only 15 minutes to jump on, I hope you will join us. We do not need to talk a long time to get things moving...just need to touch base, share our ideas and set a starting point from there. If you have any questions let me know, otherwise I hope to speak with you tomorrow. Have a great day!
