I publish a web magazine to tell stories that encourage and support women, and I am entering my final year as a member of the Women's Commission for Oakland County, one of only three county women's commissions in the state.

It's so easy these days to look at all of Michigan's problems and think, "This is just too big to fix."

Property values drop like a stone, businesses fail, houses fall into foreclosure and the resulting loss in tax revenues has our state's budget in a tailspin. As long as I've lived here (it'll be 11 years next spring), Michigan's lawmakers have struggled with massive budget deficits.
